Licensing Information
How RealFlow licensing works:
RealFlow is licensed by CPU. A standard license will use up to two real CPU. We use the terms CPU and cores interchangeably (i.e. 2CPU is the same as 2 cores). Therefore, if you have a quad core machine, you would probably want to buy a 4CPU license to take advantage of all the cores. A dual quad core machine user would probably prefer an 8CPU license, and so on.
A standard RealFlow license will work on any size of computer. However, RF4 scales well up to 16CPU, and so you can expect a significant improvement on performance between a 2 and 4 CPU, or 4 and 8 CPU, etc. The performance, however, greatly depends on the scene you are calculating. In small scenes the time needed to distribute the workload among cores is more than the time needed for computation, so in those scenes you won't get an improvement by using more processors. Scenes with high particle numbers, or high polygon numbers in RealWave, will use more computational resources, and this is where you will really see RF4 performance improve across multiple cores.
Please also bear in mind that the performance or % of CPU usage also fluctuates during a calculation, due to information being transferred to the hard disk.
Floating Licenses:
All RealFlow licenses are floating. Therefore, if you want to move the license from one machine to another, all you have to do is download the appropriate version of the software onto the new machine, and copy in the license text. Bear in mind that if you have one license, that means that you are entitled to one user only.
Networking and Command Line Licenses:
RealFlow does not calculate in a network (i.e. you can’t send one scene to calculate across various machines.) However, RF does have command lines. Command Line versions (CMD) do not have an interface. This means that you can run your standard version of RealFlow4 on one computer, and use command line licenses to launch different simulations on other computers. You can set different parameters and test the results of your animation on as many computers as you wish (1 CMD license per machine). Due to their lack of interface, CMD versions are also up to 30% faster than standard versions. Command Lines are sold in packs of 5.
